In an effort to promote local and seasonal produce, Ruskins has been working closely with our food suppliers to put together a selection of seasonal specials.

Not only will these specials fit the mood of the season but also, wherever possible, local ingredients will be used:

  • Supporting local producers
  • Providing out customers with the freshest food available
  • Doing out bit for a greener environment by cutting down on carbon emissions by not having produce shipped from the other side of the world

At times we will be using our close neighbours; we wouldn’t want our customers to miss out on such things as sweet, juicy French and Italian peaches during the summer months.

On the other hand our customers can look forward to:

  • English grown purple sprouting broccoli during March and April
  • Asparagus, cherries, gooseberries, raspberries, strawberries and tomatoes from a local producer in Retford from May through to August
  • English apples will be prevalent during the autumn months along with English squashes, root vegetables and corn on the cob.
  • And warming, hearty dishes will be on offer during the cold winter months featuring fresh English beetroot, Savoy and spring cabbage, with forced Yorkshire rhubarb making a regular appearance on the dessert board

While our specials will be led by the vegetables and fruit in season, we will also be trying to use locally produced meats:

  • Most of the Lamb our butcher provides is from Derbyshire
  • Pork is mostly from Yorkshire
  • and our Chicken is from the U.K. bought in fresh

We cannot guarantee that the food on our menu will be local or from the UK but rest assured that Ruskins and our suppliers will be doing the best that they can to make sure that it is!
